Ansel Adams described photography as "a simulation of a perception of the world around us". He also said "the image - to the photographer - is a very different experience from what the viewer might receive from it". My photography is principally just for my pleasure and while it's nice if someone compliments my work, my greatest satisfaction is from ending up with an image that I'm happy with.
Classical panoramic images of sweeping Australian landscapes have always been my favourite subject, but recently I've tried to widen my horizons and produce a more expansive range of work. I've started writing travel articles for magazines and and enjoy backing those stories up with my images from my trips around Australia.
I'm hoping my skills with both the camera and image software like Photoshop will allow me to expand my photographic involvement over the next few years. What could be better - doing things you love (travel and photography) and being paid for it!
My 4WD allows me to get to some of those more remote locations with my camera and in the longer term I'd like to take other photographers to some of those special destinations. I've joined forces with another photographer, Peter Ryan, with similar aspirations under the banner 4WD Exposure and while we've found interest for this concept, the difficulty has been getting sufficient numbers at specific dates to make workshops viable. Peter and I will continue to develop this educational component to what we do. Feedback and questions are invited - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PS: A special thanks to my wife, Margaret, for the understanding she continues to show in allowing me the time to regularly head off with my 4WD and camera.
